“I've had several opportunities to work with Jim for formal and informal occasions. I've never been the kind of person who wanted posed family photos and before seeing Jim's work, it would never have occurred to me to hire a family photographer. But the first time we worked together, our daughters were toddlers and he asked to meet us in the park on a summer day. It never felt like a photo shoot and the results were proof. Jim simply captured our active girls being themselves. He kept shooting as we sat and talked and caught incredible photos of them flying past us. He was funny and engaging and the children wanted to talk to him.
The photos from that day are some of my favorites we have of the family. They feel like candid, playful, joyful pictures but with a professional quality that is just that ineffable difference between a phone snap and a portrait. It's hard to say why a truly beautiful photo is so impressive but you instantly spot the difference. Jim captures people at their best and most authentic and there's some magic in the way he does it. We've had many other family photo shoots since then with Jim and every time he somehow knows how to get us playing together and then without us even noticing he produces stunning, flattering portraits of everyone we love. Even the more posed photos have a candid, joyful quality to them.”
